Pokémon Art

We did a little bit of everything this class (sculpture, drawing, and painting).  I love seeing my students light up when we create artwork that is of their interest.  I believe art is a development of technical skills, dexterity, and focus.  However art should also be engaging.  If my art project fails to capture my Read more about Pokémon Art[…]

Design Student

I taught my art student how to sketch quickly in perspective. This is super useful so she can show her clients her visual ideas as she is a professional interior designer.  She wanted to learn one point and two point perspective and so I showed her some good techniques she will be able to use Read more about Design Student[…]

Sculpture

It’s been a sculpture and drawing kind of week. I was showing my students a few very useful techniques in both mediums. I was also trying to get them to understand how our sketching translates to the beginning clay process such as how we make big simple shapes (which is like how we sketch) to Read more about Sculpture[…]

Faces of Mira Mesa

Leo Reyes   I am not really good at interviews and I still am not, but I think I am getting better every time I get to do another.  For example right at the first paragraph I grew up twice ? which might be accurate, but it’s also not…  Anyway thank you for reading my Read more about Faces of Mira Mesa[…]

Painting in downtown San Diego

I painted with a bunch of fun and cute Parisians on the roof of a building in downtown San Diego.  With the vaccines rolling out I am hoping that this could be a regular thing once more before all of our collective  lives took a turn. My painters were so high spirited and we had Read more about Painting in downtown San Diego[…]

Art Camp 2021

I know a lot of things are not open so I just wanted to put this out as a resource for any young art lovers. I have been teaching art classes at my outdoors studio and have had 0 incidents. We wear masks, social distance, and we have fun while learning art!

Critiques

I’m so proud of my young art students.  They used their art vocabulary and kept it positive and constructive. They also had great insight on each other’s work! – I try to teach all of my art students to verbalize what they can see using the art vocabulary we use in class and I want Read more about Critiques[…]

Kate Session

It’s a bit blurry, but this is one of my awesome Hickman student’s work. My students and I drew Kate Sessions over zoom.  We broke things down using simple shapes and practiced our proportions.  She (Kate) planted many plants that we enjoy today (Balboa Park) and is a great figure to represent women’s history month Read more about Kate Session[…]

Paint in the Sun

The days are getting warmer and it’s so much nicer to paint outside with my students ☀️? I love teaching my students while relating with them.  My student would talk about a lot of concepts and would apologize that he was talking too much, but I think that that is part of the learning.  I Read more about Paint in the Sun[…]

Painting Instruction at Scripps

I traveled to Scripps to teach a group of young artists how to paint while under the nice San Diego sunshine.  I taught them a few techniques and in the end all of their paintings turned out great! It’s so important for children to have their social and emotional needs met and I was happy Read more about Painting Instruction at Scripps[…]
